The U.S. Embassy in Somalia has announced that it has suspended certain operations following a U.S. government shutdown that is affecting federal services.
In a statement posted on X, the embassy said: “Due to the budgetary lapse, this X account will not be regularly updated until full operations resume, except for urgent information related to security and safety.”
This means that the embassy will not provide many of the services it normally offers to citizens and in diplomatic relations, except for critical matters such as the safety of U.S. citizens.
The shutdown has also impacted other U.S. embassies in the region, including offices in Ethiopia and Djibouti, which have similarly suspended some of their services due to the same issue.
U.S. government shutdowns occur periodically when Congress and the White House fail to agree on the federal budget. Such shutdowns affect government employees, embassies, social services, and the overall diplomatic engagement of the United States worldwide.
