Djibouti Spearheads Biodiversity Restoration Project with UNEP

Geneva, Switzerland | August 3, 2025

At the UNEP Global Biodiversity Dialogue, Hon. Yacqwub Mohamed Siyaad announced a $15 million biodiversity restoration project targeting degraded ecosystems in southern Djibouti.

“Biodiversity is the heartbeat of our planet,” he said. “We are committed to restoring balance between nature and development.”

The project will restore mangroves, reintroduce native plant species, and train local communities in sustainable land management.
