Beledweyne, Hirshabelle State, Somalia
Deputy Minister of Reconciliation, H.E. Abdirisak Ibrahim Mohamed (“Ataash”), arrived in Beledweyne on an official mission to support the ongoing community-led mediation process between clans in the Hiiraan region. His visit comes at a crucial time, following localized tensions that have disrupted trade routes and displaced families.
During meetings with elders, women peace committees, and Hirshabelle authorities, Ataash emphasized the need for dialogue that is inclusive and community-owned.
“We must empower local mediators. They are closest to the conflict, closest to the people, and closest to the solutions,” he stated.
The Ministry announced a Rapid Reconciliation Support Package that includes training for local mediators, logistical backing for peace gatherings, and monitoring tools to track conflict patterns. Local leaders praised the federal government’s commitment, stressing that federal presence boosts community confidence and long-term stability.
Ataash also visited displacement settlements, promising that reconciliation efforts will be aligned with humanitarian assistance to help families return safely to their homes.
