Somalia’s President Heads to Kismayo for Key Meeting with Jubbaland President

Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud is expected to travel to Kismayo, the interim capital of Jubbaland, to hold a meeting with President Ahmed Mohamed Islam, also known as Ahmed Madobe, according to sources confirmed to Dixeed Somali Tv.

The visit is part of efforts to resolve a recent dispute following Jubbaland’s withdrawal from meetings of the National Consultative Council (NCC). Tensions escalated when Ahmed Madobe was re-elected as Jubbaland President in a Kismayo-based vote that the Federal Government described as “illegal.”

President Hassan’s visit is expected to follow Madobe’s recent return from Nairobi, Kenya. According to sources, the meeting follows mediation efforts involving international diplomats and neighboring countries.

The meeting was initially planned to take place in Nairobi but was moved to Kismayo to build trust, with President Hassan reportedly insisting that the agreement be reached within Somalia. Jubbaland officials have yet to comment on the matter.

Neither side has disclosed who initiated or facilitated the meeting. However, President Hassan recently confirmed ongoing dialogue with Jubbaland.

Political analysts believe that a third party, particularly governments with ties to both Mogadishu and Jubbaland, is leading the process. Concessions are expected, though the details of any agreement remain unclear.
